Technical Challenges
"Opus" is a play about a prominent string quartet. The play takes place in many locations, but the main setting is a replica of a recital hall. During the play, the quartet is invited to play at a White House dinner with the President of the United States in attendance. When they are called to perform and they leave the set to play, the back wall of the set opens like a set of louvers to reveal a light show upstage on the cyc.

All of the louvers had to open at once and rotate 90 degrees so there was a clear view to the cyc behind the set.
Technical Solution

I actually worked out this idea while playing with my son and his Legos. The nine frames were constructed from Aluminum for weight considerations. The brackets which held the bottom of the frame ended up sleeving into the pivot shaft from above and then pinned in place. A similar bracket was used above to aid in turning the panels, but no force was applied to that point.
